Adoption/Foster Issues

Pre-Adoption Consultations/Adoption Records Review
Dr. Wollin provides Pre-Adoption Consultations to prospective adoptive parents to explore their questions, decision-making process, and any couple or family dynamics related to adoption, as well as their capacity and readiness as parents or as a family to pursue adoption.

She also provides an Adoption Records Review process to help families assess their capacity to be a family for a child with a specific background of trauma, neglect or prenatal exposure to drugs or alcohol. This process involves a review of information and documentation related to the matched child and meeting with adoptive parents to discuss their concerns and provide information and resources to assist them in their decision. She also reviews adoption records and developmental histories of children who are already adopted, for the purposes of identifying risk factors and aiding in accurate diagnosis.

FASD and Prenatal Exposure Webinar
Dr. Wollin has a 2-hour webinar entitled The Impact of Fetal Alcohol Exposure on Children and the Trauma Work We Do, available for purchase through Adoptive Families of Hong Kong.

Attachment Trauma/FASD
Dr. Wollin works with adoptive and foster families to assist them in parenting children who have had difficult beginnings in life. She also works with families where there has been prenatal exposure to alcohol or drugs (or suspicions/possibility of exposure), and provides support for diagnosis and management of Fetal/Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD).

Dr. Wollin's TEDx talk on Attachment Trauma and Resilience

When working with children and their families, especially traumatized children or adoptive or foster families, Dr. Wollin follows the Integrative Attachment Trauma Protocol for Children (IATP-C) developed by Debra Wesselmann and colleagues from the Attachment and Trauma Center of Nebraska. Dr. Wollin is a Certified IATP-C Clinician, and the IATP-C model is a combination of EMDR therapy and family therapy.

The book Integrative Parenting: Strategies for Raising Children Affected by Attachment Trauma is required reading for all adoptive parents and parents of children with developmental trauma who are commencing ongoing therapy with Dr. Wollin.
